Facebook has forced me to go through all of my boxes (and boxes) of old photos. This has been so fun, humbling and well, at times, truly frightening.
Looking at these photos, it became clear to me that one requirement I had in high school, in order for you to be my friend, was you had to have hair you could see from space.
Case in point:
(Good Friends: Pinkie, Kristy and Carol. They were a solid testament to what ’80s big hair was all about.)
(Heather, she loved paisley.)
I choose a slightly different hair expression. I went with not so much height, but with the blonde streak in the front. Not quite as bold a choice, but equally tragic.
(Me, going to prom, Marina High School, 1985.)
Sometimes I feel sorry for the teenagers today. Their style seems so tame, so mature. The Abercrombie and Fitch-look will never produce shrieks of horror 20 years from now.
They will say things like, “Look how young I looked.” Instead of the more acceptable, “Why did my mom let me leave the house like that?!!!”

You and your friends are so pretty…you look like models!

Sigh. I wish I was in highschool in the 80’s. Instead, I was still wearing pigtails and barrettes with farm animals on them. Oh, and the bowl-cut bangs. I totally missed out.
My mom, on the other hand, totally rocked the asymetrical cut. I remember I used to tell her she looked like a rooster. I think I was just jealous.
Cheri says
Oh my gosh. Did you steal these from my high school yearbook??? I wasn’t nearly as brave as all of you in the 80’s.

I think I had that same paisley shirt, and a giant cross earring too, amybe, or maybe that was my boyfriend. 🙂 Amazing hair!
Amy says
oh these photos are taking me back! I was a teenager in the 80’s too 🙂

This post is particularily funny when you continue to scroll past it to George and Rod. It is a theme.
And OH MY GOODNESS you were (and are) so dang gorgeous. That photo is amazing…..and those eyes!

Wow. That’s really all I can say. How did I survive the ’80s without ‘dos like this?? Chalk it up to living on a farm, I guess. My claim to fame was “wings” and four pairs of alternating socks. 🙂

Gotta love the 80’s. I just keep thinking of Cindi Lauper. Too funny.

THOSE are awesome photos! Truly remarkable 😀 And I completely agree with you about the teens of today. I just feel sorry them. It’s actually a dream of mine for each of them to experience the home permanent.

One of my little 2nd graders asked me if she looked ’80’s’ with her giant bow in her hair and silly braclets up to her elbows. I just did not have the heart to tell her that her hair was WAY wrong!
Kimberly says
Wow…those are some hair styles. I like your Nightmare on Elm Street I just saw Freddy white streak! ahhahaha
Amy says
I love love love it!!! You & your friends looked so cool! I would have been a little envious of you all in school!!

I am loving all that big wonderful hair! Ya’ll look so cool and glam!
I agree with you about today’s look. It’s so generic. Hee, spoken like a true teen in the 80s, huh? 😉

You guys ROCK!!! I often prayed for hair like that…
Was there Aqua Net involved?
Tonggu Momma says
Did you ever see the movie “Night of the Comet?” No? Hmmm… Well, I can’t for the life of me think of why I remembered that movie.
Marcia says
LOL That is quite the hair! lol.. but yes, you all are beautiful
Amanda at The Lounge says
haha i like the streak. bring it back!
Groovewoman says
I for one REALLY miss the big hair. I wish we could bring it back. I actually came in on the big hair in the 90’s as it was dying out. The only thing we did big were the bangs with a curling iron and aquanet hairspray. 😀
You are right… today’s kiddos will never have as much fun looking back at themselves in pictures as WE do! 😀
Valarie Lea says
All of your hair was great!! You are so right about our kids, they won’t have anything equally as good to look back on. 🙂
rapunzel says
Love those pics! I admit it, now & then I miss big hair. sigh. Not enough to adapt the style again, mind you….
Stephanie says
You’re so right. My teenager and her friends all have the “one length” ‘do…most of them completely flat & straight. At least we had interesting styles back then! Your hair was really pretty! Not so sure about that Heather!!
Tammy says
I thought I was looking at photos from the filming of Sixteen Candles! 🙂 That hair is umm, slightly big. And I sure do LOVE the paisley shirt.
Well Behaved Krissy says
ahahaha!!! Yes, but the teenagers now might say “why did I wear jeans two sizes two small that sat down too low on my hips and gave me a muffin top” and they will absolutely say “in what planet was it a good idea to wear short skirts and UGS???”
Plunger Girl says
Sad to say, but I adore that hair. But I’m from Texas. Big hair is in our genes.
Meg says
Step aside while I post a photo of my “bi-level” from 1984!
(One of these days, I will be brave enough to do so…)
Kara-Noel says
Now that is FUNNY! Save some HS posts for the next one… lol! Heather… wow… how long did that take!
You should add your yearbook jr high posts. I think my friends are too embarrassed to share pix of jr high… lame I KNOW!
