Slate

The online magazine Slate is a daily read for me. It covers everything; traveling (their “Well Traveled” section is one of my favorites), politics, the internet and of course, style and fashion.

It is the perfect remedy for People Magazine or your local paper. It just has a way, in my opinion, of pulling everything together. And by everything I mean things that the aforementioned formats wouldn’t touch. It isn’t ALL cynical or ALL gossipy. It is just a very nice mix of information, humor and relevance.

Slate is where I read the article “Lolita’s Closet”, by Emily Yoffe, and then the following online discussion of the article, “Dressed Down”.

The author takes us along with her on a frustrating journey; taking her eleven year old daughter back to school shopping. With wit and unabashed truthfulness, she speaks for most Moms with young girls about the trampy trends and inappropriate fashion that has infiltrated the once carefree world of ‘tween clothing.
If you have ever felt baffled by the undergarment section at “The Limited Too” or been floored by your daughter’s request for a t-shirt that reads “Princess for Hire,” then you have to read this article. We are not alone.
