My story on “Wimpy Kids” is going to be in the Orange County Register on Monday in the Life Section.

If you live in Orange County pick one up, cut it out, laminate it, and send it to every person you ever met–wait, that’s just what my mom is going to do with it.

You can just pick one up. If you don’t live in Orange County, simply click– Here.

My “Slacker Mom meets the PTA President” story is scheduled to run in Monday’s paper too. It’s alway fun to get some ink. Cheers!

Wow, the girls i dated in Austin had a seven year old that didn’t know how to ride a bike! I’m not sure if I was on my second or third bike by that age. I thought allot of it was to do with the fear of having their kids abducted but I didn’t know about the protective nature of their schools. protective of their pocket books that is.
Life seemed to much simpler when I was a kid. I remember cutting parts of my body and getting stitches, no one died. Flying through the air into a ditch when i missed a curve on a dirt path.
You wrote a brilliant article and asked some pertinent questions.

Oh I practically lived on the floor growing up and have the scars to prove it. Despite my mom’s best attempts to over-protect me (“don’t go outside, you’ll get hit by a car and die.” thanks mom!) I still managed to live somewhat. Mind you thanks to all of that I’m still nervous to take huge leaps of faith. What if I crash and burn (and die) in the process?!
Parents let your children run, jump, play! If their baby teeth fall out who cares!? They’ll be replaced.

I feel that kids are in danger of becoming wimps. I hardly ever see kids playing outdoors. Are they wimpy or addicted to computer games, etc. etc. Do I sound old? Grrr. When I was a youngster, we made dirt pies and we liked it! We wrecked our bikes and loved it! Whatever happened to parents making kids go outdoors? That’s crazy about not being allowed to run on the playground. Teachers used to ‘make’ us run. Go figure.
    Excellent article.

No running on pavement?! Are you kidding? Maybe this helps to explain why North America is the fattest continent. Shouldn’t we be encouraging out children to run and play? Will padding gym floors be next? or maybe we should just cancel Phys Ed classes altogether.
    Excellent article!
