So my son Ben came home from the first day of kindergarten with what I think is the perfect and most fitting memento, especially for a boy–an injury report. Not that I'm happy he was hurt, but because it told me he got out there and played hard. He jumped high. He ran fast. He tried something a little over his ability. He tried something new.
So he biffed it? So what?
It made me smile when I glimpsed him in the rearview mirror as he happily chattered away about his day, emptied his sand-filled shoes on the back floor of my car, Spiderman band-aids on his knee and elbow, then handed me the piece of paper. "Here, I burned-in on the playground. It was fun."
I want to be more like Ben. He was kinda my idol at that moment.

We should all be more like Ben.
I have not burned in on anything lately.
I so miss the sandy socks. Not. 🙂

I’m impressed your school has spiderman band-aids!
Good for him to get out there and take a lick out of life:)

You need to bottle that stuff and sell it. I sure need a dose of Ben;)

OMG, I love the “I burned-in on the playground”, too cute.
I am going to need a binder for all the ouch reports to come to go with the mound I have already collected from the daycare.

Yeah for Ben!
Although I always think those accident reports are silly. They seem to write Tucker up for every little tiny thing. I always take it as a passive-aggressive way of telling me to get him to CALM DOWN at school and stop giving him cafinated coffee before dropping him off. I never listen. hey man….he is their problem now.

Sheesh! This is all kinds of awesome. I would have loved a report like that too. Like you – not that he’s injured himself, but that he played so HARD. You know my Ben and your Ben would get along so well.

I swear Caden gets an injury report at least once a week at preschool. I should probably save them. I’m sure he will get a kick out of it when he’s older. He’s accident prone like me. At least they are playing hard, being boys. I would rather have that, than him being scared of everything. Some of the kids are so sheltered and I think that’s sad. One of his preschool teachers told me that one of the moms actually complained about the sand/water table at school this summer. That it was too dirty.
