**Sort of.
When I started to compile this list I thought it would be easy. "The 10 all-time best make out songs, ever?" No problem. But, then, after firmly placing three songs on the list, the task became overwhelming to me. The gravity and importance of the chore became more than I could handle alone.
So I reached out–like most people do in time of need–to my friends on Facebook. I asked my friends there to help me pick songs. Then I asked my friends on Twitter to join in with their choices.
It became tragically clear to me after about twenty comments that none of my friends on either of the networks have had a proper make out session since 1991, or even before that time. Not one song from the last decade and a half was offered–even by me. Leaving me with a list of songs that could easily be a mixed tape made for you by your 11th-grade boyfriend (or girlfriend).
This list is a generation thing–made-up of memories from a time when the words and music seemed like they were created just for us.
So for me and my generation (35-45ish) this is the list I compiled with your help–thanks.
1.) Led Zeppelin "Kashmir"
2.) Roxy Music "More than this"
I already see some obvious omissions and kind of regret ever taking this on…Ah,ha! I forgot "Take me on!" See!

Those sound great! I could add a few more to the list, but I also haven’t had a good makeout anytime recently, so mine might be a little outdated too. lol
Amy says
Love the fact that you’ve added Led Zep to it, they’re one of my favourites. This might be too much information but I once made out to Brothers in arms by Dire straights, perfect!
Dorkys says
Is it bad that I only know like two songs from your list? Then again I’m pretty horrible at listen to “good” music.
Mental P Mama says
You really should have included “Knights in White Satin” by the Moody Blues…;)
Serendipitous Girl says
I thought for a second that you were reaching out to old friends on Facebook to make out with you. And I thought that might be REASON #1 for SSG to sign up for Facebook! As far as songs go … I’m going to add my two cents and say EastMountainSouth’s “So Are You to Me.”
Suz says
Love it. I too would have a hard time coming up with a “current” list….gosh though, now that I listened to all of those songs I need to make out. oh well, it is just me, the dogs and my spanish stone layers here today…..c’mon pup!!!
Debs says
Can’t believe you missed Paul McCartney’s “My Love.” That is a good one. Or anything by Journey. Or…you are right this is too hard to do!!!!!
Predo says
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ELO!!! I fact, I could (if I had too) even make out to the Xanadu soundtrack!! And, no, I am not just that easy! I think that good make out songs disappeared about 15 years ago, and that is why they seem a little dated. I mean it simply could not be a reflection of our age, could it?
fancy feet says
More than this and In your eyes are great picks. I don’t know about making out to them but I like the songs. Actually ‘in your eyes’ is in my top five favorites of all time.
Hmmm…I guess I don’t make out to music too much.
Meg says
Note to self: Schedule makeout session soon.
Could I add another dated reference? Foreigner’s Waiting for a girl like you. Or the whole “4” album. At least that’s what someone told me. 😉
kelly says
current make out songs….Radiohead is a good choice.
Grant Forest says
Boston’s “More than a Feeling.” But, oh, lovin that you included ELO. Guess this is an age-based call.
Marie says
Oh how could you forget “Open Arms” by Journey, or REO Speedwagon “Can’t fight this feeling” ohhhhhh it is time for a great makeout session….Good songs you pulled out. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Suz.
Curt McCormick says
How about anything by Air Supply or Little River Band?
Kelly: HA! Radiohead yes, except for “Creep,” perhaps the spookiest song EVER.
Megster: I am free most evenings, please inquire within.
Nat says
Your blog is busy now-a-days…people are catching on to you I guess.
I hate to do this to you, but you forgot Journey and that is simply unforgivable. I won’t stay mad at you forever, but I might not tell everyone I meet to read your blog anymore. (not really, i just knew that would bother you the most)
Kate Parker says
This is too much fun to pass up. I have to give my song, The Psychedelic Furs “Love my way.” Makes me want to make out with the guy in the cubical next to me just thinking about it.

What a great list. I think I probably made out to a lot of Led Zeppelin back in the day. “Kashmir” is nice and long. I remember thinking it was “Cashmere” as in the sweater until a friend pointed out that it was about a place. So embarrassing!
Baby Favorite says
Ahhh… I love those songs. Love the memories, too!
It’s sad that nowadays, when I get a burn on my neck, it really IS from a hot iron (or curling iron, which was once the excuse).
*sigh*
(You should find me on Facebook! Susan Walker, not sure how many millions are out there, though…)
Baby Favorite says
Oops, meant FLAT iron. Apparently my mind is going at the ripe old age of 40, almost 41.
Jason says
I only know 3/10 of these songs. I think that attests very seriously to the fact that I didn’t ever make out during the 80s. Not once. Not ever. Not with anyone.
nik says
Radiohead, mmmmmmm yes! And Portishead, too.
And I would be remiss if I didn’t make a comment that both bands have “head” in the title, which is kinda funny for a make-out list.
Keli Horton says
I love “Crash into me” by the Dave Matthews Band. Also, there was a song by George Michael/Wham.. “Where did your heart go?” or something like that.
Kelly says
WWWHAT! NO! Stop the…internet (?) Aren’t you forgetting Marvin Gay’s “Let’s get it on?” Maybe you didn’t want to be soooo obvious, but PLEASE “Lets. Get. It. On.” says it all. Just like what’s her name up there, makes me want to make out with the next guy who walks by (unless it’s my bastard of a boss, then the next guy).
Amy says
Lots of comments about Journey, yeah they’re one of the best 🙂
blythe says
coldplay. every song. 😉
Catherine says
“This list is a generation thing” I agree with you, Suz, but it’s a Cultural thing too. Something your ears are used to or not. Mine would be different, even with American songs.
chrome3d says
I guess the Bolero-styled repetition of Kashmir is great for something that takes a longer time.
Maria says
Great songs, indeed! 😀
Banana says
It appears that there is one very obvious exclusion on your list and that would be Barry Manilow. I’ll throw it out there. I’m not too proud .
big hair envy says
I haven’t had a good makeout session since 1986……I vote for “Open Arms” by Journey:)
Jill says
I see a very obvious oversight in the make out songs list. “I Wanna Be Your Lover” by Prince.
Jennifer says
forgot about that Style Council song… Love it! Great list!
