Fun to do the impossible

“It’s kind of fun to do the impossible.” Walt Disney

I am going to start to work on a treatment for a sitcom I have kicking around in my head and I’m looking for some advise…from you.

Here’s where I am now:

I could write it out at home privately and send it out in standard fashion. I have been doing some reading on the subject (I read on thing about it) and have a basic idea of of formatting and content. The only problem with doing it this way is it will probably just get heaped in a pile of the other gazillion treatments received by the various networks, agents and whoevers. The advantage would be that it would remain unpublished and therefore, unstealable.

My other option is to do it all online, on yet another blog, for all who wish to follow me through it. The upside to this is it would be out there for anyone to read and possibly catch the eye of some honcho or big wig or mucky muck or …. you get the picture. The other plus would be you would be able to see it progress and give opinions and song suggestions (yep!). The darkside of this plan is some swiper could read it and heartlessly steal it.

I am ready to get this started. So, what do you think?

How ’bout a sitcom installment eNewsletter that only subscribers get? I dunno. Or maybe we just hunt down those who dare to steal your brilliance. Yeah, that’s it.

My opinion? Do it all in front of the world. Don’t be afraid of something getting ripped off. It’s almost better to do it online. That way it’ss documented as yours. Plus I want to suggest you use Separate ways by Journey in it. I miss that song.

I think the on-line way matches the actual content…so therefore a perfect match. You have just as much risk of having your concept stolen if in paper form as well…..those interns are desperate. I would just have huge disclaimers and copyrights and all that jazz on the site. I would copy/paste protect the pages as well (don’t ask me HOW- I just think of the ideas-not execute them!)………the only problem is…you will be getting alot of feedback by doing it on-line. Which can be the enemy to having your own vision/voice. Like remember when you were naming your children? No matter what name you told your mom/husband/friend, someone always said they didn’t like it for this reason or that reason……too much feedback makes it difficult to stick to what YOU want sometimes……..clearly I have issues about the baby naming thing-but that is for another day!

Blog it!!!! If someone steals your ideas (I promise I won’t) then you’ll have 100,000,000,000,000 readers (mostly really mean moms with fingernails) to hunt them down and scratch their eyes out. So let this be a WARNING-DON’T EVEN TRY IT! I am so excited!!!!!

Swiper No Swiping, Swiper No Swiping!
Ok, sorry for my Dora Moment.
I think that if you have evidence (a la dated internet entries) you can prove that it’s your idea. Although I’d be paranoid anyway. Whatever route you choose to go, I think you can be certain that you’ve got a big group of admirers who will help with whatever inspiration you may need!
